Plumbheavy has been a proud supporter of Dogs with Wings Assistance Dog Society since 2007 when owner Tara Langlois started volunteering for the organization as a puppy raiser. Dogs with Wings fosters integration and independence to people with disabilities by providing them with highly trained assistance dogs. Long after Goldie and Enzo graduated and became service dogs, Plumbheavy continued to be involved with the organization by providing pro bono design services for various promotional materials, graduation ceremonies, and their annual fundraising gala. Here is a look back the creative we’ve developed for this highly anticipated event!
The inaugural event was held at Blatchford Hangar in Fort Edmonton Park so we developed a vintage aviation theme for the 2008 event. Edmonton’s Aviation Museum was kind enough to let us borrow a vintage leather helmet and goggles for service dog Enzo to wear while sitting in one of their propeller planes (no photoshop required!).

By 2012 the gala had become a much anticipated event and evolved into a dress-up party as much as a fundraising event. In addition to dinner and silent auction, this year included an Elvis impersonator for entertainment. Playing up the whimsy of the Hawaii Fi-do theme, we created a collage of bright tropical botanicals that was carried through event materials.
In 2013 the gala committee came up with the theme of “mob dog” so we aptly named the event ‘The Dogfather’ and played up the art deco aesthetic. Moving away from photography we created a custom illustration and cleverly applied it to program covers and volunteer t-shirts.
And finally, here we are at the 2014 event ‘Viva Dog Vegas’! Pink boas, glitter and marquees … what more can we say! This year the gala will be taking place on Saturday, October 18 at the Chateau Louis Conference Centre.
