Construction has been going on for a few weeks downstairs on the new David’s Tea that will be opening up in our building. Despite the hammering and sawing, we’re looking forward to having a place on the avenue to go for some afternoon iced teas and healthy treats (our last studio was located above a candy store!). The tea shop reminds us of a project we worked on back in 2007 and inspired this month’s Flashback Friday post.
Before franchised tea shops were mainstream, local connoisseur and entrepreneur Lisa Hanzel opened her own independent tea shop: Essence Organic Tea Bar. Passionate about the health benefits of premium, organic teas, she wanted to offer the community healthy alternatives for busy lifestyles. The cozy little shop in downtown Edmonton offered over 70 varieties of loose leaf teas including some of Lisa’s own creations. Some of our favourite menu items were the Cream Earl Grey Lattea (made with maple syrup and steamed almond milk), and the refreshing Peach Rooibos iced tea on hot summer days.
Plumbheavy Design Co. developed the brand for the store and marketing materials to promote the new venture. Creative highlights from this collaboration included developing a series of custom labels for all the different tea varieties, custom lettering for menus and store signage, and screen-printing packaging for “Teaser Packs”.
